To Keep Your Sanity
What I found hilarious (sarcasm) when starting a business is the true lack of work-life rhythm you end up having on the front end. The ironic piece of this is the fact that one of my services is work-life rhythms. I feel like right now, I’m fantastic at speaking into other people’s lives to create this, yet struggling to do it myself.
Now, I’m trying to give myself grace - it’s been less than a month since I officially launched, and there’s a lot to juggle between clients, my family, new clients, being intentional with my husband, working out, volunteering at church, leading our small group… you get it. But, such is life. We all have our balls to juggle.
For me, one non-negotiable I’ve found is working out at least three times a week. You probably saw in the cover photo of this blog a picture of me and one of my best friends, Lauren. Check her out here and the services she offers, specifically to new Moms. I directly correlate so much of my recovery (mentally and physically) to her over these last nine months postpartum with our third baby. Her presence and training has created accountability for me, and pushed me further than I would have ever pushed myself.
Creating work-life rhythms is great, but maintaining Is where I see so many people struggle. To start, create your non-negotiable list. BUT, keep it short - aka keep it attainable. The longer it gets, the more overwhelmed you’ll be, and the less likely you’ll be able to keep up with it.
Here’s my list:
Time with Jesus every morning first thing
I listen to The Bible Recap daily readings + podcast every morning. A few mornings a week I’ll listen to a sermon from various pastors that I enjoy, and I try to listen to a lot of worship music throughout the day to keep my mind ‘right’
Overall health
Working out 3x a week, focusing on a whole foods diet, keeping regular appointments with our naturopath, and taking supplements to help by body feel and be its best
Intentional time with my family
This looks like weekly date nights with Micah where we put our phone away and on do not disturb; uninterrupted time with each of my kids whether that’s nursing, board games, or snuggling for a movie night
Short, attainable, and MAINtainable. Three key pillars to designing your work-life rhythms.
